Organizing your communication is critical during an incident. FireHydrant gives you control over if and when a centralized channel is opened for your incident.
Add Create Incident Channel to your Runbook, FireHydrant opens a dedicated incident channel for you.
In Slack, you can also set the incident channel as public or private, depending on your organization's policies.

The default behavior for chatops channel names is "incident-123", but this configurable to allow other formats as well. We provide 3 template variables that can be used to create your own room names:
number
- The FireHydrant generated incident number.date
- The current date with hyphens (2019-10-22)name
- The incident name, lowercased, hyphenated. This means that names like "Bobby's big spill" will be converted tobobbys-big-spill
Additional Slack notes:
Slack has a limit of 80 characters for incident room names, FireHydrant will do it's best to always create a channel, so this means if there is a collision on the name or if its too long, we might modify the last few characters to get a room that isn't taken yet.
A few examples of incident channel formats:
-incident-#{{ number }}
will become-incident-42
-inc-#{{ date }}
will become-incident-2019-10-22
-inc-#{{ name }}-#{{ date }}
will become-inc-bobbys-big-spill-2019-10-22
-inc-#{{ date | replace: '-', '' }}
will become-inc-20191022
