Notifying a chatops channel

You can notify your teams of new incidents being opened by adding the "Notify a channel" Runbook step. We offer two types of notifications:

  • Standard format: includes the incident name, severity and links to the command center and private status page
  • Custom format: free-form message allowing interpolation of incident data
Note for Slack: For this step to work, you need to invite the FireHydrant bot by running the command /invite @FireHydrant inside of the channel in question.

Standardized format

Name the step and list one or more channels to be notified.

This is what you can expect to see in Slack

Custom format

Supply the messaging to be used in the notification, and include incident data, as described in the article on using templates in Runbook steps.
